April 2009
Dear Foster Parents and Students,
I hope everyone had a great spring break! The last quarter, which began March 23rd, will be event-filled and very important academically to our students. Please continue to monitor your child’s academic standing. It is imperative that they have a strong finish with their school work this final quarter.
Congratulations are in order again for some of our Foster family members. I want to thank and congratulate the 130 students who achieved Honor Roll Status for the 3rd quarter. Your hard work has paid off and will continue to benefit your future. I also want to thank all parents, students and Foster staff that took part in our Foster Bingo Night on Friday, February 20th. We had an awesome turnout!
I would like to thank our 6th grade Science Teachers, Ms. Wheat and Ms. Kirk, and our 6th grade counselor Ms. Cohea, for all their help with our 6th grade Character Quest Program. For two days on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27th, they accompanied half of our 6th graders to the Tulsa Public School’s Helmzar Challenge Course. Ms. Wheat and Ms. Kirk implement our 6th grade Character Quest Program through their Science Classes. This program consists of teaching the concepts of anti-bullying, diversity and cooperation. When they attend the ropes course, students are introduced to team building and high /low altitude activities. This is an excellent program and thanks to all Foster Staff and District Staff that make this program a success. The remainder of our 6th graders will attend the challenge course on April 28th, 29th and 30th.
Parents, please remember that on Tuesday, April 14th through Thursday, April 16th all students (6th – 8th grade) will be taking the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test (O.C.C.T.). Be looking for a parent, student guide that will be sent home this week on Thursday, April 3rd and review this information with your child. Please encourage your students to give their very best effort on this test, and make sure they are well rested and eat a healthy breakfast, so they can perform their personal best. The State Department also requires us to have test monitors present during testing. We are looking for parent volunteers who could volunteer their morning time on any of these days. Please call Ms. Massey at 746-9501 if you can help on April 14th, 15th, or 16th.
Fourth quarter progress reports will be distributed to students the week of April 27th . As I stated earlier, this is a very important time of the year academically. The temptation for students to “chill out” or relax is understandable, but please continue to encourage and help your student to finish strong academically. Final grades and promotion rest upon their performance during this important time of the year.
