It is necessary for the Student Council Officers of Foster Middle School, above all others, to show respect for themselves, their fellow students, and their teachers as well as the staff of Foster Middle School. They are role models for the entire student body, their behavior and actions must be above reproach at all times.
In order for our organization to operate at maximum efficiency, and to insure the success of council activities here at Foster and at away events, every officer is required to observe the following:
1. Cooperate with teachers, and follow school rules.
2. Maintain a 2.5 grade point average (no F’s).
3. Attendance at all Student Council and Executive Board meetings.
4. Good attendance record.
5. Good behavior record.
6. Ability to attend before and after school activities and functions.
7. Fulfill the duties and requirements of their office and other responsibilities as designated by the sponsor.
8. Appropriate dress according to specific guidelines issued for individual events. Some functions may require shirt, tie and slacks for boys; Sunday type dress for girls.
Failure to adhere to any of the above may result in probation or removal from office. Should you have any concerns about any guidelines, please do not hesitate to call me here at Foster. The number is 746-9500.

EXAMPLE FOR ELECTIONS
ELECTION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The candidates must met following qualifications by the for Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian.
1. Must be an 8th grade student during the 2008-2009 yr. to hold the office of President
2. THIS OFFICE WILL BE OPENED TO ANY STUDENT IF THERE ARE NO 8TH GRADE CANDIDATES.
3. The office of Vice President is open to any grade.
4. The office of Secretary is open to any grade.
5. The office of Treasurer is open to any grade.
6. Must be a 6th grade student at the time to run for the office of Parliamentarian.
7. Must have maintained at least a “C” average in all classes during the 2008-2009 year
8. Must be recommended by at least two teachers (one teacher must be a core teacher). Sixth grade students may summit one recommendation if that recommendation is from a core teacher (fall election only).
9. Must have parental permission to run for office.
10. Must summit a copy of the 3rd quarter/ 2nd semester grade card.
NOMINATION PROCEDURES
Nomination procedures for candidates for Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasure, and Parliamentarian are as follows:
1. The candidate should get nominating materials petition, grade certification sheet, and teacher recommendation forms from Ms. Roberts’s rm. 119.
2. The candidate’s name must be written legibly, in cursive, on his/her petition.
3. Each candidate must summit an election essay. Essays will need to include the following:
a. The office you are seeking.
b. What makes you the best candidate?
c. Explain why you want to be a student council officer.
4. Each candidate must carry his/her petition.
5. Each completed petition must contain 20 signatures, and only 20 signatures.
6. All petitions must be in ink and in cursive.
7. Each candidate may sign his or her own petition once.
8. Students can sign candidates’ petitions only once per office. Candidates whose petitions contain duplicate signatures will have 24 hours to correct their petitions after being informed of the situation.
9. All required nominating materials for each office must be turned in to rm. 119 at the same time and by the specified date.
10. The order in which nomination materials are turned in determines the ballot position.
ELECTION RESULTS
When the counting has been completed, an official tally should be prepared and the results announced to the student body.

A. To keep attendance records indicating excused and unexcused absences and tardies.
B. To accurately record the minutes of the meetings.
C. To handle all correspondence pertaining to the Council.
D. To take care of all financial business (in the absence of the treasurer).
E. Other duties as deemed necessary by the sponsor.
DUTIES OF THE TREASURER:
A. To take care of all financial business.
B. To take care of secretarial duties in the absence of the secretary.
C. Other duties as deemed necessary by the sponsor.

A. To see that parliamentary procedure is followed, at all meetings.
