Principal's Message

February 2010
Dear Foster Parents:

Our school year is continuing to go smoothly and quickly.  I can’t believe it is already 3rd quarter progress report time! I wanted to remind you to please get out and vote on Tuesday, March 2nd concerning the Tulsa Public Schools Bond Proposal 2010.  The proposed bond and past bond projects will and have provided many needed aspects to our schools.  Foster will benefit from the facility, library, and classroom bond to a grand total of $2,203,074.00.  Foster will receive a much needed new library media center, technology, textbooks, furniture, and classroom upgrades.  The 2010 bond proposal is a six year bond, so there will not be a bond election for six years.  Also, this bond will not raise taxes and cannot be used for employee salaries.

A big thank you to our awesome adopters, State Farm and University of Phoenix.  State Farm and University of Phoenix are providing many monitors for the eighth grade State Writing Test, which will be Wednesday, March 3rd.  University of Phoenix implemented our “Student of the Month” program, which is a very positive and motivational program.  They provide all of our students of the month with $25.00 gift certificates, engraved wall plaques, and goodie bags.

Parents of eighth graders, please encourage your child to do their very best on the upcoming 8th grade Writing Test on Wednesday, March 3rd.

Also, all parents, each of our students will be taking the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test (O.C.C.T.) during the week of April 19th.  Please encourage your student to give their very best effort on this test, and make sure they are well rested and eat a healthy breakfast so they can perform their personal best. The State Department also requires us to have test monitors present during testing.  We are looking for parent volunteers who could volunteer their morning time on any of these days.  Please call Ms. Massey at 746-9501 if you can help on April 20th, 21st, or 22nd.

Our school still has access to a great resource for preparing our kids for the state standardized tests.  We have purchased a building license for a web-based program called Study Island, which is accessible to students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades from school or home.   If you have internet access, your child can access Study Island from home as well as school or your local library, to prepare for the very important Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test in April.  A parent letter was sent home at the beginning of the school year with specific instructions on how you and your child can access this awesome program.  If you need this information sheet, please contact the main office.

Thanks to all parents, students, staff, and community for attending our annual Community Bingo Night!  We had our best turn out yet.  We had over 200 people in our cafeteria for a fun and informative evening.

In closing, please continue to monitor your child’s academic performance this quarter which ends Wednesday, March 31st.  Also, please plan to attend the spring parent/teacher conferences that have been scheduled for your benefit.  Conference dates will be Thursday, April 1st from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and on Friday, April 2nd from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.

All of our teachers will be available in their rooms for you to conference with on a first -come, first- served basis.  Maps of our building and teacher’s room numbers will be available for you in our front foyer.  Please make note that school will not be in session for students Monday, March 15th through Friday, March 19th (spring break).  Third quarter report cards will be distributed Friday, April 9th.  We look forward to seeing you on April 1st or April 2nd for conferences.

Respectfully,

Darin Schmidt
